| Native Long Finned Eels
At Paradise Valley Springs we have a fantastic display of "huge" native eels. They weigh up to 20kgs and can live over 80 years of age. These eels are found in most rivers, swamps and in some of our lakes. They need to travel far into the Pacific Ocean to breed - although they have recently been bred in captivity for the first time in New Zealand.
